INTRODUCTION
Epoxy Floor Paint is one of the hardest wearing floor paints on the market, designed to give a perfect finish with durability to last for years and easy DIY application. Some people believe it is a hard process if you are doing this yourself, follow this guide and you will have a glossy hard wearing floor in a few easy steps.
Surface Preparation
Before you start painting it is vital that the surface has been thoroughly cleaned and has been left to dry. holes and cracks should suitably be repaired before painting, the smoothness of your finish will be dictated on the smoothness of your starting surface. Better preparation will give you better results. We recommend that the surface has a temperature between 5 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius. Too cold on your coating may not allow to cure correctly, too warm and this may make the paint cure to quickly for you to work with.
We do advise the floor is either ground or scarified prior to application to ensure good adhesion, this can be accomplished by hiring a floor grinder from your local tool hire shop.
Product Preparation
Start by setting the products out on a mixing area, you should protect this area with disposable plastic sheeting or cardboard. Everest Trade Epoxy Floor Paint is a 2 part product so make sure you pair together your part A's and part B's.
Once the activator has been added to your epoxy your unit will have a limited pot life of 30 minutes, so it is recommend that you mix one unit at a time to allow enough time to apply the first unit. Mixing should be done with a electric powered drill with a metal paddle mixer. if you do not have a paddle mixer we offer these on our website designed for use on epoxy
Open the part A and mix this thoroughly for 1-2 minutes, then add the part B and continue to mix for a further 1-2 minutes making sure both parts are thoroughly mixed. Once this has been mixed you should apply this straight away to the prepared surface.
Applying The Product
Firstly we recommend applying the paint to the outside areas with a paintbrush as this makes things much easier going forward. If painting a large area we advise that you mark out an area using masking tape that 1 unit will cover. A 5kg unit will cover between 17-20 square meters. Mix each unit using the same mixing process and decant the mixture into a paint scuttle or tray. Begin applying the paint to your floor ensuring a thin even layer to give a even layer throughout the surface. Dependent on the porosity of your surface the first coat your first coat make look a little patchy, Don't worry this will be addressed once the second coat has been applied. If you've used masking tape remember to carefully remove before the coating has cured. Once the surface has been fully coated allow the paint to fully cure, this usually takes 12 hours when applied at 20 degrees Celsius. once the paint is touch dry you can start applying the second coat using the same method as the first coat. Its important the second coat is applied withing 24 hours of the first coat. Again once the second coat has been applied allow this to cure for a further 12-16 hours, after this time you will be able to walk on the floor and refill the contents of the area painted. We recommend 48 hours before parking vehicles on the surface. Water and other liquids should not be introduced onto the newly laid coating for 7 days after which a full chemical cure will have been achieved. Your surface will now be complete with a smooth and glossy finish that will last for years to come.
